Baggage Policy

Everything you need to know about luggage limits and airline rules.

Last Updated: February 07, 2026

Baggage policies vary significantly between airlines, and it is crucial to understand the rules associated with your specific ticket type. Below is a general guide to baggage allowances, but we strongly recommend checking your specific airline's official website for the most current information.

Note: Baggage fees are generally paid directly to the airline at the airport or during online check-in and are non-refundable.

1. Carry-On Baggage

Most airlines allow one piece of carry-on luggage and one personal item (such as a laptop bag or small backpack) per passenger.

  • Weight Limit: Typically 7kg to 10kg (15-22 lbs).
  • Dimensions: Must fit in the overhead bin (Standard: 22" x 14" x 9").
  • Basic Economy Caution: Some "Basic Economy" or "Lite" fares DO NOT include a carry-on bag, only a small personal item that fits under the seat.

2. Checked Baggage

Checked bags are usually subject to fees unless they are included in your fare class or you hold airline loyalty status.

  • Standard Weight: Usually 23 kg (50 lbs) for Economy Class.
  • Standard Size: Linear dimensions (Length + Width + Height) up to 158 cm (62 inches).
  • Excess Baggage: Bags exceeding weight or size limits incur significant additional fees, often ranging from $100 to $200 per piece.

3. Restricted & Prohibited Items

For flight safety, certain items are strictly prohibited in both carry-on and checked baggage:

  • Flammables: Liquids, gases, and explosives are strictly forbidden.
  • Lithium Batteries: Spare batteries and power banks must be kept in your carry-on luggage (not checked).
  • Sharp Objects: Knives and tools must be packed securely in checked baggage.
  • Weapons: Firearms must be declared at check-in and follow specific airline/legal transport rules.

4. Lost or Damaged Baggage

In the unfortunate event that your luggage is lost, delayed, or damaged, you must FILE A REPORT WITH THE AIRLINE IMMEDIATELY at the baggage claim desk before leaving the airport.

  • Keep your "Property Irregularity Report" (PIR) and tracking number provided by the airline.
  • Please note: faretrips acts as a booking agent and cannot process baggage claims or provide compensation for airline-related luggage issues.
